Mountain Moving Faith: What Happens When You Believe Big
Have you ever wondered if faith could truly change the impossible? Jesus said even faith the size of a mustard seed could move mountains. But what does that mean for your real life today—your finances, your family, your future? What if God is waiting for you to believe bigger? In this post, we’ll uncover a powerful truth that has the potential to reshape how you trust God—and how you walk out His promises. Get ready for a fresh vision of what mountain-moving faith actually looks like.
Faith That Changes Everything
Faith is not just a word we toss around in Christian circles. It is the heartbeat of our walk with God. But let’s be honest, sometimes, life throws mountains at us that seem unmovable. Bills pile up. Diagnoses shake us. Relationships strain. Dreams feel delayed or even dead. Have you ever stood at the base of your own mountain and silently asked God, “Where are You? Are You seeing this?” You’re not alone. And you’re not without hope. In Matthew 17:20 (NIV), Jesus tells His disciples:
“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
That sounds amazing, but what does it actually mean? Does God really expect us to believe that much is possible? The answer is a resounding yes. And not only is it possible, it is essential to the life God has called us to live.
What Is Mountain Moving Faith?
1. Faith That Starts Small but Aims High
The mustard seed in Jesus’ metaphor is tiny, one of the smallest seeds known in ancient Palestine. Yet when planted, it grows into a tree big enough for birds to perch in its branches. Jesus intentionally used this seed to show that size isn’t the issue. Starting with even a small amount of real faith can lead to radical transformation.
What are you currently believing God for? And are you limiting Him based on what you see or feel?
Mountain moving faith is not about having a huge amount of confidence in yourself, it is about placing a huge amount of trust in a God who never fails.
2. Faith That Sees the Invisible
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) says: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Faith sees beyond natural limitations. It leans on God’s promises even when circumstances shout the opposite. It is the lens through which we see God’s reality over our own.
Do you see the doctor’s report, or do you see the Healer?
Do you see the closed door, or do you trust the One who opens the way?
The Power of Believing Big
1. Jesus Responds to Bold Belief
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus repeatedly honors bold faith. In Matthew 8:5–13, a Roman centurion came to Jesus asking Him to heal his servant. What made his faith remarkable? He believed Jesus could heal with just a word. He did not need Jesus to come in person. Jesus marveled at this and said: “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.” (Matthew 8:10).
Imagine Jesus saying that about your faith.
2. Faith That Breaks Through
There’s the story of the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:25–34. She believed that if she could just touch the edge of His cloak, she would be healed. And she was. She believed big. She acted on it. And Jesus called her faith powerful. What if your breakthrough is on the other side of you believing just a little bit bolder?
Why Don’t We Believe Bigger?
Fear, Doubt, and Control
It is easy to talk about big faith when everything is going well. But what about when things get hard? Sometimes, fear silences our faith. Doubt creeps in. We want to believe, but it feels risky. Maybe we have believed before and things did not turn out how we hoped. That hurts. Sometimes, we just want control. We struggle to release our grip on outcomes because surrender feels scary. But remember this: In 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV), Paul reminds us: “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” We are not called to live in fear. We are called to walk in faith.
How to Build Mountain Moving Faith
1. Feed Your Faith With the Word
Faith comes from hearing. That is not a motivational slogan, it’s Scripture. Romans 10:17 (NIV): “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” Want more faith? Get more Word.
What am I filling my mind with?
Is it feeding my faith or fueling my fear?
2. Remember God’s Faithfulness
When David stood before Goliath, he remembered the lion and the bear God had already helped him defeat. He used past victories to fuel present belief.
How has God shown up in your life before?
What miracles have you already seen?
Your testimony is the soil where fresh faith grows.
3. Speak Faith-Filled Words
Jesus said in Mark 11:23 (NIV): “If anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes… it will be done for them.” Your words matter. Speak life. Speak promise. Speak as though the mountain is already moving.
4. Pray Bold Prayers
Do not settle for small, safe prayers. Pray with confidence. Hebrews 4:16 (NIV): “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence…”. God is not intimidated by your big prayers. He welcomes them.
When Faith Meets God’s Power
Faith does not mean everything goes how we want, but it does mean we are aligned with God’s best. When you step out in faith, you activate the power of heaven in your life.
- Miracles happen.
- Doors open.
- Hearts change.
- Peace floods in.
But even more than what God does for you, faith draws you closer to who He is.
What Mountains Are You Facing Right Now?
What’s in front of you that feels unmovable?
- A financial crisis?
- A broken relationship?
- A lost dream?
- A secret struggle?
What would it look like to believe God anyway?
What would change if you stopped measuring your future by your resources and started trusting God’s power?
Faith Is Not a Formula, It’s a Lifestyle
There is no magic switch to make mountains move. This is not about “name it and claim it.” It is about developing a lifestyle of trust.
Faith is believing God when it does not make sense.
Faith is holding on when everyone else lets go.
Faith is saying “God, I trust You” when your heart feels heavy.
And friend, God honors that kind of faith. He draws near to those who draw near to Him (James 4:8).
Live Like the Mountain Is Already Moving
Speak It. Believe It. Walk in It.
Faith without action is dead (James 2:17). So start living today like your breakthrough is already on the way.
- Thank God in advance.
- Encourage someone else.
- Make the move He’s asking you to make.
Even if the mountain hasn’t moved yet, act like it is already shifting.
It’s Time to Believe Bigger
We serve a big God. A God who parts seas, heals bodies, raises the dead, provides manna, defeats giants, calms storms, and moves mountains. And that same God is still working in your life today.
So ask yourself: Am I believing big, or am I playing it safe?
Let today be the day you choose bold, mountain-moving faith. Let today be the day you take God at His Word.
Reflect, Pray, and Declare
- Reflect – What mountain have you been staring at in fear instead of faith?
- Pray – Ask God to increase your faith. Be honest with Him. He meets you where you are.
- Declare – Speak a promise of God over your situation daily. Write it down. Declare it out loud.
- Share – Encourage someone else today with what you’ve learned. Faith grows in community.
Let’s believe together.
Mountains still move. God still answers. And your faith is the key.
